RZSS Edinburgh Zoo is home to over 1,000 rare and endangered animals from around the world, including the only giant pandas and koalas in the UK. Set over 82 acres of sloping parkland, and just 10 minutes from the centre of Edinburgh, it’s recognised as one of the world's leading zoos. We provide the procurement services for our client Compass, who are proud to operate Edinburgh Zoo’s three cafes and several kiosks.
Soil Association Food for Life – Bronze Award
With our network of local, regional and national suppliers, we work hard to deliver what’s important to our clients. For Edinburgh Zoo that means partnering with suppliers who have the strongest ethical standards around sustainability, animal welfare, nutrition and freshness. In August 2017 Edinburgh Zoo achieved Bronze from the Soil Association’s Food for Life Served Here award. The recognition provides visitors with a guarantee they are eating meals which are freshly prepared, healthy and sustainable.
Working with local suppliers
We work with a range of suppliers who are local to Edinburgh Zoo to deliver quality products including; tea and coffee from Edinburgh merchants, Brodies, ice cream and dairy from Mackie’s of Scotland, butchery products from Campbells Meat, fruit and vegetables from Mark Murphy & Partner Ltd and bread from The Breadwinner Bakery.
Delivering eco friendly solutions
We work with Edinburgh based company Vegware, who produce eco friendly packaging and catering disposables that are environmentally safe and completely compostable. At Edinburgh Zoo, we use Vegware products like compostable straws, to serve all of the food and drink, helping to divert waste from landfill.
