We are incredibly proud that Foodbuy has been accredited as a Silver Carbon Literate Organisation by the Carbon Literacy Project. To date, 75 colleagues have taken part in our tailor-made, accredited Carbon Literacy Training sessions, each delivered by our dedicated sustainability team.
This prestigious accreditation recognises our commitment to upskilling our people, so that they can play a proactive role in reducing our organisational carbon emissions and work towards a zero-carbon future.
Carbon Literacy is defined as, “An awareness of the carbon dioxide costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis,” and revolves around a day’s worth of learning and action on climate change.
A Carbon Literate Organisation is an organisation that has been accredited by The Carbon Literacy Project as being “culturally Carbon Literate”, maintaining a substantial proportion of its workforce as Carbon Literate and demonstrating its Carbon Literacy through its organisational behaviour.
At Foodbuy, we believe the need for Carbon Literacy, and awareness of it, has never been more urgent than now.
To become accredited as a Silver Carbon Literate Organisation, 75 colleagues, representing various functions across the business, took part in our tailor-made, accredited Carbon Literacy Training series across two half-day sessions, each delivered by our dedicated sustainability team. Here are a few of the incredible benefits that this training has brought to our team and beyond:
Each of these factors ultimately, and importantly, empower our workforce to be enablers for our transition to Climate Net Zero by 2030.
Nicola Heaslip, Procurement Director at Foodbuy said:
“Carbon and net zero can be overwhelming topics, but these training sessions left me feeling much more confident having discussions around climate change, net zero, and more. It was incredibly insightful to learn about the areas in which we can make the biggest difference, and in a manageable way, continue to make strides towards our target of carbon net zero by 2030."
Dave Coleman, Co-Founder and Managing Director of The Carbon Literacy Project, said:
“Carbon Literacy is an essential skill, vital to every workplace, community, and place of study. It is the foundational knowledge, and a catalyst to empowering people to act on climate, however, Carbon Literacy is only the first step. The actions taken and pledged by learners as part of their Carbon Literacy have an immediate impact within their organisation, however it is the maintenance of these and further actions, supported by Carbon Literate organisational culture, that reaps the greatest rewards for both participants and their organisations. By becoming a Silver accredited Carbon Literate Organisation, Foodbuy has demonstrated their commitment to genuine low carbon action, environmental and economic impact, and the building of a low carbon future for us all.”
