Throughout 2024, we are incredibly proud to have raised over £92,300 for our charity partner, Duchenne UK! Since our partnership began in 2017, we have raised over £470,000 for the charity.
Who are Duchenne UK?
Duchenne UK is an inspirational charity working towards accelerating treatments and finding a cure for Duchenne muscular Dystrophy (DMD). As the leading DMD charity in the UK, they connect the best researchers with industry, the NHS, and families.
DMD causes muscle weakness and wasting. It is the most common and severe form of muscular dystrophy. It eventually affects all the muscles in the body, including the heart and lungs. It almost always affects boys and is typically diagnosed in childhood between the age of three and six.
Foodbuy’s Charity Day in aid of Duchenne UK
The Foodbuy charity day saw over 200 guests, including suppliers across food, beverages and non-food categories, enjoy a day of golf, outdoor activities, a gala dinner and a live auction at the Celtic Manor Resort.
The event was a huge success, with over £77,000 raised to support Duchenne UK. This achievement is a testament to incredible support of our suppliers, clients, and supporters who united for a common cause. Donations were raised for Duchenne UK through ticket sales and an auction.
The Duchenne Dash – 24 hour cycle from London to Paris
Another factor contributing to our significant fundraising success has been a result of our colleagues carrying out a number of personally challenging, fun and inspirational events, including hosting gala dinners, completing the three peaks challenge, running half marathons, holding culinary masterclasses, organising bake sales and participating in Duchenne UK’s flagship event, the Duchenne Dash; a gruelling 24-hour bike ride from London to Paris.
This year, a team of ten courageous Foodbuy colleagues took part, cycling 300km from London to Paris in 24 hours! In taking part, they raised over £8,500 for the charity!
Where does our money go?
Since our partnership with Duchenne UK began in 2017, our colleagues have raised over £470,000 for Duchenne UK and we are always looking for ways to support the charity and raise significant funds to help children with DMD.
Duchenne UK take an innovative approach to funding: they not only accelerate research and bring treatments to patients but work to change the landscape of drug development. This collaborative approach means that they are able to bring treatments to patients as quickly and effectively as possible.
Emily Reuben, Co-founder and CEO of Duchenne UK said: “Foodbuy helps bring the magic to the Duchenne Dash. Your dedication, passion and commitment are the special ingredients that have enabled us to raise over £8 million! We couldn't do it without you”.
