Introducing "More Please!" – Our NHS Supply Chain Team’s answer to improving child feeding throughout the NHS

2 September 2024

At Foodbuy, we are committed to supporting our healthcare clients in delivering tasty and nutritious meals to their patients. That's why we're thrilled to introduce "More Please!", a comprehensive child feeding guide developed by our expert nutritionists and chefs in our NHS Supply Chain: Food team*.

WHAT IS "MORE PLEASE!"?

"More Please!" is more than a guide—it's designed to refresh children’s feeding within NHS trusts, by enhancing mealtimes and offering more exciting food experiences for children throughout their hospital stay.

Proper nutrition is essential for patient recovery, supporting faster healing, stronger immune systems, and overall enhanced patient satisfaction. For NHS trusts, ensuring that every patient receives meals tailored to their specific dietary needs and preferences is a significant challenge. "More Please!" is our NHS Supply Chain: Food team’s strategic response to this challenge.

KEY FEATURES OF "MORE PLEASE!"

  • Patient-Centered Approach: putting patients at the heart of what we do by catering to unique dietary restrictions and individual tastes, ensuring that meals are both enjoyable and  nutritionally balanced.

  • Engaging, child friendly design – driving consistency and fun into food, making mealtimes an enjoyable experience.

  • Innovative and efficient recipes: contains over 50 thoughtfully curated and nutritionally analysed recipes crafted by expert dietitians and chefs. These recipes are designed to be both delicious and easy to prepare, making it simpler to serve high-quality meals.

  • Training and Support: "More Please!" includes insights and information on various aspects of child food service including portion sizes, picky eaters, flexible meal patterns, feeding guardians and carers, to enhance skills and knowledge in nutritional care.

MAKING AN IMPACT THROUGH FOOD – SOPHIE’S LEGACY

‘More Please! was inspired by Sophie Fairall, a young girl who endured repeated hospital stays during treatment for cancer and whose poor experience with the food on offer motivated her to push for change. After she passed away, her mother set up the charity ‘Sophie’s Legacy’ in her honour, to address the issue.

Our expert nutritionists and chefs within our NHS Supply Chain: Food team built ‘More Please!’ in close collaboration with Sophie’s Legacy, working to implement Sophie’s wish to drive positive change in Paediatric food service.

Leanne Turk, Development Chef at NHS Supply Chain: Food, said:
“I have loved working with the NHS Supply Chain: Food team to create this recipe book, bringing guidance to feeding our future in hospitals. Through the project, we have been able to bring experience, innovation, expertise, and first-hand insight to create this amazing tool for NHS trusts to adopt. We hope that for years to come, NHS teams are empowered to drive positive change across child feeding operations to ensure that children are nourished from our recipes and excited by what's on the menu.”
