Sustainability is a huge part of our mission, which is why we’re proud to announce our new partnership with OGGS® to introduce plant-based egg alternatives to our operators. OGGS® is a provider of plant-based egg substitutes that taste great and do good. We’re delighted that Foodbuy has been awarded a six-month catering contract exclusivity with OGGS®. Through our partnership, we aim to bring about great tasting food that has nutritional and environmental benefits.
OGGS® Aquafaba and Scrambled OGGS® products offer plant-based alternatives to egg across all cooking functions to create delicious dishes, and they’re aligned with our goals to make healthier food that’s better for the planet. OGGS® Aquafaba is a plant-based egg alternative that produces 72% less CO2e than eggs. If we’re able to reduce our reliance on shell egg by 30% through working with OGGS®, we’ll save the CO2e equivalent of 30 flights from London to Sydney.
As well as better for the planet, swapping eggs for OGGS® can make our food lower in saturated fat and calories. OGGS® Aquafaba has 86% fewer calories than eggs, as well as 96% less saturated fat. Saturated fat can raise your cholesterol levels and increase your risk of heart disease, meaning by including a plant-based egg alternative, we can see both health and environmental benefits – with no compromise on taste.
Neil Chapman, Foodbuy’s Category and Sourcing Director explained: “Education around how to use plant-based egg alternatives is a large part of the work we’re doing with OGGS® to reduce our reliance on shell egg within Foodbuy. We’re excited to be working with OGGS® to educate and inspire our operators about our plant-based egg alternatives, the dishes they can create, and the huge impact on nutrition and carbon footprints by this switch.”
Hannah Carter, founder and CEO of OGGS commented: “Since day one our mission at OGGS has been to make an impact. That impact comes from reducing the number of eggs we use and the knock-on effect that has on animal welfare, our health, and the amount of CO2e the food system creates. We’re so proud to be working with Foodbuy to enable that huge change across their operators with delicious, plant-based alternatives to eggs.”
