Stepping Up to the Plate on Food Waste
6.2 MILLION TONNES of food is wasted by the UK food industry every year.
3 MILLION TONNES of the wasted food is still edible. That's enough for 7 BILLION MEALS
At Foodbuy, we have a responsibility to do everything we can to reduce food waste and fight hunger in the UK.
So how are we stepping up to the plate?
We're proud to work closely with FareShare to save perfectly good surplus food from going to waste by redistributing it to frontline charities like soup kitchens and homeless centres.
Let's take a look at the impact this partnership has had in 2022 alone:
• 27+ tonnes of food redistributed
• Equivalent to 65,606 meals
• 1586 charities and community groups helped
• 44.1 tonnes of CO2e saved
On Wednesday 26th April, join us in celebrating an international day of action in the fight against food waste, STOP FOOD WASTE DAY. Each year, our client Compass Group, take this day to draw attention to the problem, and educate through engaging with society at all levels and sharing practical, creative, and
impactful ways we can all change our behaviour to minimise food waste.
"Food waste is a massive issue facing us all. As a global leader in food service operating in 40+ countries, we are uniquely positioned to raise awareness and make a positive impact to reduce food waste." Dominic Blakemore, CEO, Compass Group PLC
