An Impact Company That Make Chocolate
Tony’s Chocolonely is an impact company that makes chocolate. Putting social impact before profit — Tony's Chocolonely's vision is to make chocolate 100% slave free. Not just their own chocolate, but all chocolate worldwide.
The team at Tony’s believe that there are 5 Sourcing Principles that are essential to enable long-term progress and a more sustainable cocoa chain.
They all need to work together, like ingredients in a cake, to achieve the Tony’s mission.
Tony's 5 Sourcing Principles
1.A HIGHER PRICE to bridge the gap between the farmgate price and the living income required.
2.STRONG FARMERS by working to professionalise farming cooperatives.
3.THE LONG-TERM joint commitment ensures income security and financial planning
4.IMPROVED QUALITY & PRODUCTIVITY by investing in agricultural knowledge and skills.
5.TRACEABLE COCOA BEANS through buying directly from farmers and cooperatives.
Leading by Example
1. Tony’s pay cocoa farmers a living income reference price, supplementing the Fairtrade certified price with an additional Tony’s premium.
2. Their partner cooperatives will begin work with Technoserve, a non-profit that provides coaching specific to each co-op’s needs.
3. Tony’s lock in the higher price per tonne of cocoa to their farmers for a minimum of 5 years, most of their farmers stay in contract much longer.
4. They invest in agricultural knowledge and training to help farmers improve productivity on their farms so they can earn a decent income.
5. Tony’s use a bean tracker to track the beans right down to the individual farmer all the way along the supply chain
