Biodiversity: Encouraging greater diversity across farm systems, including a wider variety of grass species, inter-cropping in feed production, and the introduction of heritage and diverse animal breeds.
Soil Health / Carbon Sequestration: Using third-party measurement to track improvements in soil health from a defined baseline, including nutrient content, quality, and carbon levels. Indicators of progress may include earthworm activity and mineral balance.
Space for Nature: Supporting rewilding and land-sharing approaches on farm to increase space for nature. Success is indicated through improvements in hedgerow coverage, wild bird populations, and water usage and quality.
Farm Adaptation Network is working with selected suppliers, including Lake District Farms, to support on-farm horticulture and legume production initiatives. Foodbuy clients provide a purchasing commitment covering at least the first three years of harvest, helping suppliers invest with confidence and strengthen more resilient UK supply chains.
