We’re providing 10,000 free food boxes for frontline staff

We’re pleased to announce we are supporting new measures to help recognise frontline staff and local communities during this global crisis.

During these unprecedented times, we wanted to recognise the incredible efforts of those around us who are doing great things. With this in mind, we are redirecting our supply chain to provide essential provisions for frontline workers and also donating £500k worth of food to our food waste charity partner.

Recognising frontline workers

We are providing 10,000 free food boxes for collection by frontline staff working for our parent company and largest client, Compass Group UK & Ireland. Our free food boxes contain a number of high demand food and non-food products – like cereal, baked beans, bread and toilet roll - that might currently be difficult for key workers to obtain on the high street. We feel these boxes will be a source of support for key workers and vulnerable people, allowing them to prepare meals and keep going during these difficult times.

Fighting food waste

We’ve also committed to donating £500k worth of food to FareShare, as well as ensuring our food surplus continues to support food banks and other charity and community providers. FareShare saves good food from going to waste by redistributing it to frontline charities like soup kitchens and homeless centres. These organisations transform the food into nutritious meals, which they provide alongside life-changing support. As a leading food procurement organisation we have a responsibility to do everything we can to reduce food waste and we’re incredibly proud of our partnership with FareShare.

Ian Murphy, Managing Director, Foodbuy, commented: “Throughout the UK, people are doing incredible things to support the battle against Coronavirus. Our clients in particular are on the frontline of this crisis; from feeding NHS patients and staff, to supporting key workers in the education, defence and infrastructure sectors. We wanted to thank them by recognising our frontline workers and ensuring vulnerable people are able to access nutritious food and meals throughout these difficult times.”

We’re here to help

We recognise this is an ever-evolving situation, but as a leading food procurement organisation with a robust pandemic policy in place, we are confident in our ability to continue to support our clients and their operations. If we can assist you in any way during these difficult times, feel free to contact us.
